A man and a woman are in custody following a bizarre home invasion investigation in the mountain town of Edwards that eventually led police to the discovery of a dead body inside a home.

Police are still working to identify the victim.

The incident began in the Pilgrim Downs area of Edwards, which is west of Vail and Avon, around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When Eagle County Deputies arrived on scene, "a possible home invasion was apparent and investigators were alerted," a press release said.

As deputies checked the home for suspects, they discovered a deceased person inside.

Two people have been taken in to custody in relation to the case, the sheriff's office announced Thursday.

23-year-old Jacob Tyler White of Denver is under investigation, along with 24-year-old Leigha Page Ackerson, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

“We want to assure our community that though this is a traumatic event, the suspects are in custody and are no longer a threat," Eagle County Sheriff James Van Beek said in a press release.

This case is still active and under investigation and additional details will be released pending notification of family members, the sheriff's office said.

The coroner will determine the victim's cause of death.

An alert was sent out to the residents in the Lake Creek area to shelter in place while police investigated Wednesday night.

The Mesa and Summit County Sheriff's Departments, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, also assisted in the investigation, the sheriff said.
