Two students - one who attends Moffat County High School - reportedly devised a plan to shoot up the school on Friday, 19 years after the Columbine massacre, according to a letter from the superintendent that was posted to the district's website.

Craig Police got involved late Wednesday night and detained the student that attends MCHS before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, says Superintendent David Ulrich.

The letter goes on to say that Moffat County High's principal was alerted to the threat by one of the students in the plot who was out of state and accounted for by law enforcement.

“When there’s an important anniversary for some reason it galvanizes those who maybe feel disenfranchised that are struggling," said John McDonald, the Executive Director of Security and Emergency Management for Jefferson County Schools.

Despite detaining the MCHS student, Craig Police assured Ulrich they will provide what they call an enhanced presence on school grounds throughout the district.
