Early morning fire at apartment buildings under construction

The fire happened in an unoccupied apartment building under construction, according to firefighters.

AURORA, Colo. — Crews with Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire early Thursday morning in the 7300 block of South Addison Court.

The fire involved multiple residential buildings under construction, Aurora Fire said. Crews got the report of the fire about 12:11 a.m.

There were many obstacles for crews arriving on scene: Crews had access issues and had to cool large propane tanks, according to Aurora Fire. Because the fire was in a new construction site, fire hydrants were limited, making it difficult to get water to the area.

Five units were destroyed in the fire. The Colorado Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called in to assist with the investigation by supplying heavy digging equipment, Aurora Fire said.

No injuries were reported. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Aurora Police shut down northbound E-470 at South Gartrell Road as crews battled the fire.
