19-year-old who died in crash taught brothers how to love unconditionally

The Colorado State Patrol says 19-year-old Terren Spitz was a passenger in a box truck that went off the road Saturday evening.

A young Wheat Ridge man has died after a crash in Grand County Saturday evening.

The Colorado State Patrol says a box truck driven by 19-year-old Justin Schwear, also from Wheat Ridge, was heading east on Highway 40 near Parshall at around 5 p.m. Saturday when the truck went off the right side of the road. It traveled for more than 250 feet before crashing into some trees, and ended up facing west in the eastbound lane.

The passenger, 19-year-old Terren Spitz, was taken to a hospital and died. Schwear had minor injuries.

Spitz had several brothers and sisters who will miss the random and unpredictable moments they remember so fondly.

"It'd be raining or snowing, and you'd tell him to go run across the street in his underwear, and he'd do it," said his older brother, Matthieu Tirrell.

Terren's big family crowded into his mom's house on Monday night to grieve, but it was impossible for them not to laugh while they remembered these moments.

"He taught us how to love unconditionally and to take each day and just be yourself," Tirrell said.

His family has set up a YouCaring page to help offset the medical and funeral expenses.

The crash is still under investigation. Troopers do not believe alcohol, drugs, or speed were contributing factors in the crash, and the road was dry at the time.

Parshall is about 12 miles east of Kremmling.
