Southwest Airlines offering $5,000 checks to passengers aboard flight 1380

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) is offering $5,000 checks and $1,000 travel vouchers to passengers aboard flight 1380, which experienced deadly engine failure Tuesday while en route to Dallas.

As reported by Bloomberg, the airline is offering the financial compensation and assistance with other “necessities” like finding lost luggage.

“We value you as our customer and hope you will allow us another opportunity to restore your confidence in Southwest,” CEO Gary Kelly said in a letter to customers. “Our primary focus and commitment is to assist you in every way possible.”

Engine failure on the Southwest flight, which was carrying 144 passengers and five crew members, forced an emergency landing in Philadelphia. Jennifer Riordan, a Wells Fargo executive from New Mexico, died from injuries sustained during the flight.
