A portion of E-470 was closed at 120th Avenue for hours after a semi-truck went over a barrier wall, fell from an elevated stretch of road and landed upside down on Thursday morning.
Firefighters were at the scene doing what they described as a “major extrication,” according to a tweet from Brighton Fire Rescue. Multiple vehicles were involved in the wreck, which was reported just after 8 a.m.
At about 8:30 a.m., firefighters said they were able to extricate the driver of the semi. The 72-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and died shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday night, Sgt. Gary Cutler with Colorado State Patrol said.
It's unclear if anyone else was injured in the wreck. Alcohol, drugs and speeding are not considered factors in the crash.
E-470 fully reopened around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday.
