FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A Fort Collins man recently traded the cushy Choice City for the unforgiving Arctic, and his journey will start playing out on TV screens next week.

Barry Karcher, 41, was one of 10 people selected for the History Channel's sixth season of "Alone," which premieres at 8 p.m. MT June 6.

The survivalist reality show drops its 10 cast members into harsh locations, giving them a year to live off the land with nothing more than their choice of 10 survival items.

This season takes place around the Great Slave Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories — with permission from the Lutsel K'e Dene people, a small indigenous tribe that calls the rugged area home.

The last cast member standing at the end of the show wins $500,000.
