Someone in Longmont lost their peahen

Longmont Animal Control found a loose peahen and is trying to reunite it with its owner.

LONGMONT, Colo. — Missing your peahen?

Animal Control in Longmont is trying to reunite a mischievous fowl with its owner.

The peahen is hanging out in a tree near Mountain View and Hover Road in Longmont.

The peahen is not allowed to be in the City of Longmont, according to a tweet from Longmont Fire and Police. But they think it may have wandered in from the county (where it is permitted), possibly because it's going through a rebellious streak.

A peahen is "a female peafowl, having drabber colors and a shorter tail than the male," according to dictionary.com. (Although we wouldn't recommend calling a woman, no matter the species, "drab.")

Under Colorado regulation, peafowl are considered domestic animals, and so can be owned as pets as long as they are legal under local codes.

If you know who the owner of the loose peafowl in Longmont is, you are asked to call the Longmont Emergency Communications Center at 303-651-8501.
