Local museums celebrate Dia del Niño with free entry and entertainment

Celebrate traditional Latin American culture during Día del Niño (Day of the Children) on Sunday, April 29. This year, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Art Museum, Clyfford Still Museum, History Colorado Center and Byers-Evans House Museum will offer free general admission on Sunday. The Denver Public Library Central Branch is also participating.

Boulder’s Museum of Contemporary Art starts things off one day early on Saturday. Plus, there are other free and low-cost events across the metro area. Here’s what’s happening:

Saturday, April 28

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participate in a family-friendly day of traditional Latino festivities, including art-making, live dance, and musical performances. Performances by Ballet Folclórico de la Diversisdad Cultural, Comparsa Morelos – Los Chinelos, and Danza Matachina Tlaxcalteca Guadalupana.

Sunday, April 29

Byers-Evans House Museum. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Open to the public for tours.

Clyfford Still Museum. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participate in art-making activities and enjoy live performances in the Museum’s forecourt and explore the Museum’s galleries. All ages welcome.

Denver Art Museum. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy vibrant performances both on the Plaza and inside. Participate in artmaking activities. Bilingual volunteers will be on hand at each location. For more information, in English or Spanish, call 720-913-0072.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebration includes music and dance performances, face painting, crafts, Colorado sports mascots, Mr. Bones the Paleo Puppeteer, bounce house, face painters, petting zoo and a Museum-wide scavenger hunt.

With limited free parking at the Museum, consider the free parking at East High School, 1600 City Park Esplanade. Free shuttle buses will run all day between the Museum and the high school from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Denver Public Library Central Branch. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Create art from recycled children’s books and enjoy special performances.

History Colorado. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy free admission, family-friendly programming, and live music and dances that celebrate children from around the world. Performances are 15 minutes long.

WOW! Children’s Museum. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stores, dances and activities that honor the Mexican origins of this special holiday. All activities included with Museum admission (children ages 1-11: $9; adults: $5).
