Former Vail Resorts Inc. CEO Adam Aron set social media on fire this week when he said the movie chain he now heads might allow texting during movies.

Aron, who's now president of AMC Entertainment after leading Vail for more than a decade, told Variety this week that in an effort to appeal to millennials, AMC might allow texting because "when you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life." Texting might be allowed in "specific auditoriums and make them more texting friendly."

The backlash to Aron's comments were quick and severe on social media.
