KUSA - Denver financier Philip Anschutz will appear at the Tattered Cover book store later this month to sign copies of his first book, "Out Where the West Begins: Profiles, Visions & Strategies of Early Western Business Leaders."

While it may not seem unusual for an author to visit a book store, in this case it is. Anschutz is known almost as well for his reclusive nature as he is for the deals that have made him a billionaire. He owns newspapers, including The Gazette in Colorado Springs, but doesn't give interviews.

But if there's one thing Anschutz is known for, it's his love of the West. A noted collector of Western art, Anschutz has opened his collection of art for display at the American Museum of Western Art at 1727 Tremont Place in Denver. What's known as The Anschutz Collection has been cataloged and written about in two books so far.

Anschutz's own book, from the University of Oklahoma Press, was written with William Convery and Thomas Noel. Both are well-known historians with plenty of books to their credit. "Our Where the West Begins" puts a spotlight on the entrepreneurs who built up the West during a span from 1800 to 1920, including brewer Adolph Coors.
