AURORA - Aurora Police said two people were killed and a third person was injured in a three-vehicle crash on Tower Road near 22nd Avenue.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Lt. Michael McClelland said a woman driving a Ford Escort and man driving a GMC Yukon Denali were headed north on Tower Road. The Denali struck the Escort from behind. The impact sent the Escort off of the right side of the road. The Denali then crossed over the median and hit a Ford F-150 head-on.

The boyfriend of the driver of the Escort was driving ahead of her and saw her car veer off of the road. The boyfriend came back to his girlfriend's car and began administering CPR but was unsuccessful in reviving her.

The driver of the F-150 also died at the scene.

The Denali's driver was trapped after striking the F-150. A Good Samaritan, who had heard the crash, broke out the windshield and pulled the Denali driver out. The Denali driver was taken to University Hospital. There's no word on his condition.

Police said the boyfriend, the Escort driver, and the Denali driver were all coming from the Frontier Club on Colfax Avenue.

Tower Road was closed between Colfax Avenue and Smith Road for more than six hours while police investigated.

Alcohol and speed are being looked at as factors, according to police. The man driving the Denali could face vehicular homicide charges.
