9NEWS Reporter Dana Knowles tells the story of Maria Juhasz, a 911 dispatcher who saved a baby's life. 4 p.m. March 3, 2003.
Maria Juhasz took the call on Friday afternoon from a frantic woman who only spoke Spanish. The woman said her baby fell in a bucket of water and her face was turning purple. The baby girl wasn't breathing.
Juhasz called a paramedic, who gave her CPR instructions. She then translated those instructions into Spanish so the woman could save her baby.
The baby was treated at a hospital and released.
Usually, when someone who doesn't speak English makes a 911 call they're put through to a translation line and an interpreter helps the dispatcher.
