Black leaders discuss community representation in local news, building relationships with media

Denver's most prominent Black voices give their opinions on local news coverage of the Black community.

DENVER — It's Black History Month and similar to last year’s conversation, this year’s spotlight focuses in on the leaders in Denver's Black community.

A group of prominent Black leaders from various backgrounds gathered together to share their opinions on the news, specifically 9NEWS.

Led by 9NEWS anchor Alexandra Lewis the forum was full of influential voices, in an open and honest conversation about what they think news stations in Denver are doing right and what they are doing wrong when it comes to the representation of Black stories.

Throughout the conversation, we heard from people on why they don’t feel represented in the news, their desire to build more authentic bonds with local journalists, and how they would grade the performance of local news coverage of their communities.
