2 men lead deputies on chase after alleged trespassing incident

Two men accused of trespassing in an effort to unlock storage units in Canon City on Friday face multiple charges after attempting to flee from deputies.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received a call about two suspicious people attempting to get into storage units in the 800 block of Drake.

Deputies arrived at the scene and determined that both suspects had left the scene – one driving a green SUV, the other a blue truck.

Both suspects, according to the sheriff’ office, fled the scene northbound on Field Avenue. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, both vehicles continued to elude police by traveling westbound onto High Street.

Deputies were eventually able to pull over the driver of the SUV at the intersection of High Street and Orchard Avenue.

That driver, identified as Rickie Lopez, 49, was arrested and faces charges for driving without a license.

Deputies later located the second vehicle in 1300 block of Natalie Street. The driver, identified as Christopher Brown, 35, took off on foot.

The sheriff’s office says the truck he was driving was reported stolen out of Tennessee.

With help from the Canon City Police Department and two K9 officers, the sheriff’s office set up a perimeter to search for Brown.

While the search was happening, a homeowner in the area located Brown on her property and held him at gunpoint until authorities arrived.

Brown faces charges for aggravated motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, eluding police, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
