2 more Coloradans arrested in connection with Jan. 6 insurrection

According to arrest affidavits, someone who traveled to Washington with the suspects tipped off the FBI about their participation in the riot.

WASHINGTON — Two more Coloradans have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection, according to federal prosecutors

Eric Zeis, 37, of Monument, and Justin Schulze, 31, of Colorado Springs are each facing multiple federal charges. According to arrest affidavits, someone who traveled to Washington with them tipped off the FBI about their participation in the riot.

The affidavits say two separate tipsters provided information to the FBI in 2021. One of those people told investigators that they had traveled with a group from Colorado to attend President Donald Trump's speech on Jan 6. The tipster reported that the group, which included Schulze, had traveled in Zeis' van.

The other tipster told the FBI that Schulze had posted a story/video on Instagram on Jan. 6 that was titled "Storming the Capitol." Zeis was captured in a video clip broadcast by CNN, according to an affidavit. Phone records also indicated the two suspects were inside the Capitol at the time of the riot, the affidavits say.

The affidavits say Schulze and Zeis attended the "Stop the Steal" rally before walking to the Capitol.

The two joined a large group that forced their way into the Capitol, according to the affidavits. Investigators were able to track their movements inside the Capitol by reviewing surveillance footage.

The affidavits say investigators interviewed each suspect in July 2022. They each admitted to being inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, the affidavits say.

Warrants were issued last week, and the two suspects were each arrested on Monday, according to court records.
