AURORA, Colo. — Province Car Wash & Dog Wash at South Buckley Road and East Iliff Avenue in Aurora has been broken into four times since September.
The Aurora Police Department does not have any suspect information they are able to share right now. They are unable to identify if it is the same person committing the crimes. The owners are left wondering what spot at their business will be the next target.
“A car wash is a happy place, people come here with a dirty car, and when they leave, they feel better about themselves,” said Chip Shaw, managing member of Province Car Wash & Dog Wash at Buckley and Iliff in Aurora.
This happy place for Chip Shaw has brought frustration for five months.
“Why are you doing this to me,” Shaw said. “I watched him break the glass and then he tried to pry open and get to the money. I cried because it's $38,000,”
At Province Car Wash & Dog Wash at Buckley and Iliff in Aurora, the break-ins started in September.
“They used the Penske truck, came up here with the trailer hitch, and ran it into the building, hence took all that out,” Shaw said. “It was a mess, we fixed it, $24,000 later.”
After 25 years in the car wash business, this is a first for Shaw.
“It's really hard for me, very hard,” Shaw said.
Security footage has helped.
“The strobe light comes on and he looks up like this,” Shaw said.
Shaw said he has claimed two of those incidents with insurance. Now he's worried his premium will skyrocket, or worse.
“That they are going to cancel my insurance,” Shaw said.
Shaw said the most recent attack was February 1st.
“Right now, it's putting my survival as a small business in severe jeopardy, yes, yeah it has. I could lose the business over this, they are not stealing from me, they are really kind of destroying me,” Shaw said.
Province Car Wash & Dog Wash in Aurora is open every day for business.
“Without the customer, without them coming here, we are nothing, we are just an empty car wash,” Shaw said.
