The shooting happened around 6 a.m. Sunday in the area of Smoky Hill Road and Chambers Road in Aurora.

AURORA, Colo. — A woman was shot and seriously wounded after she was involved in a hit-and-run crash and chased after the people that hit her, according to a spokesman for the Aurora Police Department (APD).

The shooting happened just before 6 a.m. near Smoky Hill Road and Chambers Road. According to APD, there was a crash at the intersection and the driver of a red Kia that was involved attempted to leave the scene.

At some point, the victim reported to police, four males got out of the red Kia and ran. She ran after them, according to police, and as she did one of them turned and shot her.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment, but is expected to survive her injuries, APD said.

The red Kia had been reported stolen, police said. None of the suspects have been identified at this time.
