A death investigation is underway in Jefferson County Thursday evening after a body was found in the trunk of a car.
Law enforcement is at 3505 S. Nelson Circle just to the south of U.S. Highway 285 in Lakewood, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators are in the early stages of figuring out what happened.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said at the moment it is just a death investigation - not a homicide investigation.
Someone reported an odor coming from the car - law enforcement came out, popped the trunk and found a body inside. The Sheriff's Office cannot say how long the body has been in the trunk or how long the person has been dead.
The car was towed from the scene just across the street from the Whisper Creek Apartments.
