Student taken into custody after stabbing at Brighton High School, police say

Brighton Police said a student was transported to the hospital and treated for a significant leg injury that was not life-threatening.

BRIGHTON, Colo — A student was taken into custody after another student was injured in a stabbing Friday morning, according to the Brighton Police Department.

School security received a report around 10:30 a.m. of a student who had a significant injury to their leg, police said in a news release.

The Brighton Police school resource officer was notified, and the student was taken to a hospital and treated for an injury that was not life-threatening.

After an initial investigation, a suspect, who is also a student, was taken into custody. The juvenile was arrested, processed and released, pending charges, police said.

Police are investigating the details surrounding the incident and where the knife originated from.

"Brighton Police Department wants to assure the community that there is no ongoing threat to students or the public after a stabbing occurred today at Brighton High School," police said.
