18-year-old who was fatally shot near Cherry Creek HS is identified

Jose Angel Harnandez's body was found inside a vehicle Saturday morning. He had no apparent connection to the school, according to police.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — An 18-year-old man was shot multiple times inside a vehicle over the weekend near Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village.

Around 5:07 a.m. Saturday morning Greenwood Village Police officers responded to the area of East Union Avenue, just east of South Yosemite Street, and found Jose Angel Harnandez's body inside a vehicle. The area is across the street from the high school.

Police said his death was being investigated as a possible homicide but didn't share many details. On Tuesday, the Arapahoe County coroner's office said that Harnandez had been shot inside a vehicle and said he died from "gunshot wounds" and that his death was ruled a homicide.

His death does not appear to be school-related, and he did not have any apparent connection with Cherry Creek School District.
