Troopers suspect that the man arrested for firing his gun into the air from a moving vehicle in Glenwood Canyon Monday was drunk at the time, according to a news release from Colorado State Patrol.
Ryan Johnson, who hails from Fairview, Utah, has since been booked into the Eagle County Detention Center for prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
According to the news release, Johnson was in a 2008 Ford Explorer on eastbound Interstate 70 between Glenwood Springs and the No Name exit when witnesses said he pointed a gun out the window and fired one round into the air.
CSP intercepted the vehicle near the Gypsum exit, and conducted what they referred to as a high-risk stop. I-70 was closed in both directions in the area for safety reasons, but reopened once everyone inside the SUV was detained.
An ensuing investigation prompted troopers to take Johnson inside custody. According to the news release, they also seized a .22 caliber handgun.
No one was injured during the incident.
