FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Fort Collins man who pleaded guilty to stealing and killing a cat was sentenced to community corrections Friday.

Bryan Hackleman, 25, was sentenced to 30 months in community corrections after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated animal cruelty, a Class 6 felony, last month. He was also sentenced to one year of jail for a theft charge, to be served concurrently with the longer sentence in community corrections.

Hackleman was also ordered to have no contact with animals until further order from the court.

Several victims spoke out against Hackleman's actions during Friday's sentencing, including Susan Oliver, the neighbor of Otto, one of the cat's allegedly taken by Hackleman. Oliver said she saw Hackleman sitting on a curb in her neighborhood petting Otto, who she said was a sweet and friendly cat. Oliver said she watched Hackleman pick up the cat and walk away, and that was the last time the cat was seen.
