A former teacher at East High School faces a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after she allegedly provided and smoked marijuana with 17-year-old students last year.
In August 2017, Rachel Farley, 29, allegedly invited students from her Advancement Via Individual Determination -- or AVID -- class to her home in Denver's South Park Hill neighborhood to decorate clothing for Freshman Day.
According to an affidavit from the Denver Police Department, a student who was invited to Farley's home "left for a while" and when she came back, Farley and the students were smoking marijuana.
In February of this year, nearly 7 months after the event allegedly happened, a student said Farley had smoked marijuana with students at her house, which is the basis for the current charge.
Police interviewed nine students in mid-March who all admitted separately that Farley provided marijuana for them to smoke.
Denver Public Schools told 9NEWS Farley was a teacher at East High from September 2011 until August 2017, when she resigned.
DPS spokesperson Jessie Smiley said there was “nothing notable about her resignation – she simply resigned.”
Farley had been working as a volunteer at East High in music and drama during the 2017-2018 school year.
DPS asked Farley not to volunteer at East High any longer after learning about the allegation, Smiley said.
Farley has been blocked from volunteering, having a contractor agreement or returning to employment with the district.
