The former sheriff of Sedgwick County will spend seven months in jail for a misconduct incident from August 2016.
Thomas “TJ” Hanna, 45, was sentenced on Wednesday for transporting a handcuffed inmate in his personal vehicle to his home when he should have been taking the victim to the Logan County jail.
A Logan County jury found him guilty of first-degree official misconduct on May 8. He was found not guilty of sexual assault on an at-risk person, second-degree kidnapping and soliciting a prostitute.
The sentence included a stipulation requiring Hanna to write an apology letter to be published in a local newspaper, a release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.
Hanna also lost his Colorado peace officer certification as a result of the incident.
