Victims in Fort Collins murder-suicide identified

An acquaintance initially told police that they believed a woman was being held against her will by her husband.

FORT COLLINS, Colo — Police who responded to a possible hostage situation in Fort Collins found two people dead inside a home once they were able to get inside. Their deaths were deemed to be murder suicide, according to the Larimer County Coroner's Office.

A police informant called at about 4:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 and reported that they believed an acquaintance was being held against her will by her husband at a residence in the 2900 block of Middlesborough Court.

Officers went to the home and surrounded it but could not make contact with anyone and did not hear any signs of distress, a release from Fort Collins Police says.

At the time, police said, there was no urgent need to enter the home since they found no signs of obvious danger. A search warrant was drafted and eventually granted which allowed them to make entry a forced entry into the home.

Once inside they found the bodies of two people and noticed a firearm nearby.

“This is an incredibly sad case for all involved, and certainly not the outcome anyone was hoping for. Our officers and detectives will work diligently to process the scene and seek answers for everyone,” said Deputy Chief Greg Yeager.

The decedents were identified by the coroner's office as Lindsey Power, 39, and Oliver McCalmont, 42. The coroner's office said McCalmont shot and killed Power before turning the gun on himself.

Anyone with information about this case who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Detective Kristie Allen at 970-416-2385.
