PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Fremont County Clerk and Recorder Katie Barr has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in connection to embezzlement allegations.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports that Barr pleaded guilty Wednesday to issuance of a bad check. She will be able to continue working for the county.

Barr was arrested March 20 for investigation of embezzlement of public funds, witness intimidation, fraud by check and misdemeanor harassment.

District Attorney Molly Chilson said she did not charge Barr with witness intimidation because an email Barr sent to her employees asking them to keep information confidential was sent two days before the investigation. Chilson also said the practice of writing checks for cash was so widespread in the office that it was referred to as "hot check Thursday."
