Fugitive shot, killed by officers following hostage situation

The shooting happened in the 8300 block of Fox Street.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A man died after he was shot following a hostage situation in Adams County Friday afternoon near West 84th Avenue and Fox Street, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff's Office (ACSO).

He was identified Tuesday by the Adams County Coroner as 46-year-old Anthony Pena of Westminster.

Just before 2:30 p.m. members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Crimes Attack Team (SCAT) and the FBI Safe Streets Fugitive Task Force were attempting to arrest a fugitive, ACSO said.

The fugitive was struck by police gunfire following a hostage situation, ACSO said in a release. The suspect died as a result of the shooting.

Pena's family said he had children. They still have a lot of questions about what happened.

"He did have a past, but just like we all have pasts," said Laura Bonney, Pena's niece. "Just like all of them are going through stuff, but everybody turns their life around. But just because you have a past doesn’t mean you deserve to be shot dead."
