Human remains found inside home, deputies say

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said they are investigating human remains found inside a Grand Junction-area home as a homicide.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — People cleaning out a recently sold house in the Grand Junction area called the Mesa County Sheriff's Office after they found possible human remains inside last week, deputies said.

The sheriff's office said deputies were called to the home in the 2900-block of Pinyon Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The sheriff's office said the case is being investigated as a homicide. It's unclear how long the remains had been inside the residence before the discovery was made.

The sheriff's office said Tuesday they could not release any more details because they don't want to jeopardize the investigation.

"This is someone's family member and we are very cautious about what information we release," a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

The identity of the remains and the manner of death will be released by the coroner's office.

Investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the community and this is an isolated incident.
