Middle school staff member arrested for sexual assault has criminal history

Court records detail assault allegations against Luis Robles-Luevanos, a family liaison at Creighton Middle School. 9NEWS also found he has three prior arrests.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man described as well-liked and in a position of trust at Creighton Middle School is now facing allegations he inappropriately touched two boys at school. Records also show Luis Robles-Luevanos, 27, has been arrested three times in the past.

Police said Robles-Luevanos was arrested Friday and is being held in the Jefferson County jail on charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

Court documents in the criminal case in Jefferson County say two families came forward, disclosing their boys were forced to undergo “physical exams” conducted by Robles-Luevanos inside his office at the school.

“The families are new to the country and unfamiliar with school protocols as it relates to physical exams,” the affidavit says.

The boys came from families that only speak Spanish and relied on Robles-Luevanos for interpretation services, according to the documents.

In the affidavit, investigators concluded Robles inappropriately touched the boys in private areas after conducting forensic interviews with the children.

Investigators believe there could be more victims and ask people to come forward.

On Monday, the Jefferson County School District sent a letter to parents notifying them of the arrest and indicated Robles-Luevanos was being terminated.

“It is absolutely unacceptable and heartbreaking to us that a student would be abused or harmed in any way. Jeffco’s Title IX team is working closely with  Lakewood PD to extend all available support and resources within the district to victims and their families,” the letter said.

Prior Arrests

A review of Robles-Luevanos’ criminal history in Colorado reveals he has three prior arrests on his record.

  • 2014 - Shoplifting in Castle Rock
  • 2016 - Criminal Mischief in Denver
  • 2019 - Trespassing in Denver

According to court documents from the 2019 trespassing case, Robles-Luevanos was fired at a hotel, but then gained access to several rooms using a keycard. The documents say he frightened a couple in one of the hotel rooms.

A statement from Jeffco Public Schools indicates that a background check revealed his criminal history, but the convictions were not disqualifying.

“Before hire, every Jeffco Public Schools employee must have a fingerprint based CBI/FBI  background check as required by state law. The misdemeanor offenses reflected on Mr. Robles’ background check were not of a kind that would prevent his hire,” an email from the district said.
