Police investigating after man found dead in car in Lone Tree

Police said Michael Lohmeier, 73, of Centennial was found dead in his car in the 8500-block of South Yosemite Street Saturday.

LONE TREE, Colo. — Officers are investigating the death of a man who was found in a car Saturday as a homicide, the Lone Tree Police Department said. 

Police said Michael Lohmeier, 73, of Centennial was found dead in his car, a 2009 Toyota Highlander, parked in the 8500-block of South Yosemite Street around 12:25 p.m. Saturday. 

Police said it appears Lohmeier died of a gunshot wound, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

"LTPD does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public," police said in a news release. "This is an active investigation. There are no additional details to share about the case at this time."

Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
