Officers shot, killed man who threatened two people with a gun, Lakewood Police say

No officers were injured in the shooting which happened near 6th and Garrison after a menacing incident and an armed carjacking.

LAKEWOOD, Colo — Lakewood Police shot and killed a man who they said threatened someone with a gun inside a Walmart store, carjacked a woman at gunpoint and then led police on a pursuit Wednesday morning.

Around 10:20 a.m., someone reported that they were threatened by a man with a gun at the Walmart at West 4th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

The suspect left the store on foot and minutes later, carjacked an elderly woman near West 4th Avenue and Zephyr Street. Lakewood Police spokesman John Romero said the woman was sitting in her van when the man approached, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to get out.

The woman was "shaken up," Romero said, but was not physically hurt.

Police began canvassing the area for the man and located him in the van. Due to the fact that he was armed, a pursuit was authorized. They followed him to the area of West 6th Avenue and Garrison Street, where the suspect crashed into another vehicle. No one in that vehicle was hurt, Romero said.
