Shots fired in armored truck robbery

Aurora Police have detained a 38-year-old man in connection with the robbery of an armored vehicle outside a Wells Fargo in Aurora.

Aurora Police have detained a 38-year-old man in connection with the robbery of an armored vehicle outside a Wells Fargo in Aurora.

Dispatch received reports around 7:45 a.m. Monday of the robbery at the Wells Fargo located at 999 South Sable Boulevard.

According to reports, the man, identified as Carl Rumph, tried to hold up the truck while it was parked outside the bank. The guard and Rumph exchanged gunfire.

Rumph was hit and ran to a nearby apartment complex in the area of South Cimarron Way and South Sable Boulevard to hide.

Police followed a trail of blood to him and he surrendered.

Rumph was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was booked into the Arapahoe County Court Tuesday morning.

Police are not looking for any other suspects.

There is no word on how much or if any money was taken.
