Suspect arrested in shooting at Colorado Springs mall

Josiah Brown, 22, is accused of killing one person and injuring two others in a shooting inside the Citadel Mall on Christmas Eve.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police have arrested a suspect in a Christmas Eve shooting inside a Colorado Springs mall that killed one person and injured two others. 

The Colorado Springs Police Department said officers received a call for shots fired at the Citadel Mall just after 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 24.

Officers responded and determined that a fight had broken out between two groups of people, escalating to the point of shots being fired, according to police. Three people were hit by gunfire, one of whom was killed. That person has been identified as 18-year-old Teryus Thomas. The other two victims had serious injuries.

On Tuesday, officers obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Josiah Brown for one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault. 

Officers arrested Brown the next day.
