LONGMONT — A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting outside a Longmont movie theater.

According to Longmont police, three officers were following 28-year-old Gillie Thurby who was wanted on a sexual assault warrant in front of the Regal Village at the Peaks theater on Hover St. at around 9:45 Thursday night.

Preliminary information from police stated four officers were involved. Later, in a press release, police reported that three officers confronted the suspect.

Police say one of the officers attempted to use his Taser while trying to arrest Thurby who then reached for his own gun. Two officers fired their weapons, and Thurby was killed at the scene. The officers were not injured.

It's not clear whether Thurby fired his gun.

Both of the officers who used their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The names of the officers have not been released.
