Tips sought after deadly shooting near Denver park

Jerrick "JJ" Johnson was shot and killed early Tuesday morning just north of City of Nairobi Park.

DENVER — Denver police are asking for help identifying a suspect in connection with the death of a 58-year-old man who was shot to death in an alley early Tuesday morning.

Jerrick "JJ" Johnson was killed around 2:30 a.m. on July 2 in the alley between Cook and Madison streets near 36th Ave. in the Clayton neighborhood not far from City of Nairobi Park, according to Denver police.

Anyone with information about Johnson's death is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Callers to that tip line can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Johnson's death was the second shooting Denver police responded to that morning. About 20 minutes earlier officers responded to a shooting near 22nd Avenue and Champa Street. At the time of the tweet, they reported that one person was transported from the scene.

About an hour and a half later, police tweeted that a second person, who had been shot, was found and also transported to the hospital.

No information is available at this time about the victims or possible suspects in the shooting near 22nd Avenue and Champa Street.
