Thornton teen identified who was killed in Weld County hit-and-run crash

The crash happened early Sunday morning near Weld County roads 4 and 87.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A 19-year-old Thornton man died after he was possibly struck by a driver on a Weld County road who never stopped, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. Sunday on Weld County Road 87 near Weld County Road 4, which is near the town of Roggen. According to CSP, the victim was facing an "unknown" direction when he was struck by an "unknown vehicle."

After being hit, the victim's body came to rest in the roadway, according to the Colorado State Patrol. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said the driver did not stay at the scene. No other information was released about the vehicle or driver that might have been involved.

On Monday afternoon, the Weld County Coroner's Office identified the man as Esteban Munoz Diaz.
