Plea bargain details released in case of motorcyclist who uploaded YouTube video of himself speeding

Rendon Dietzmann, who recorded himself speeding faster than 150 mph, is expected to have his driving privileges revoked in Colorado.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A motorcyclist whose video went viral after he recorded himself darting between cars at speeds exceeding 150 mph while on Interstate 25 has agreed to plead guilty to speed exhibition.

While jail time is part of his plea deal, it’s expected Rendon Dietzmann, 32, will not serve more time in custody. Dietzmann already spent at least 14 days in a Texas jail when he was arrested on a Colorado warrant in February, which a judge is expected to accept as credit for time served.

According to a spokesperson with the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office, Dietzmann signed a plea agreement. The terms of the agreement:

  • Pay a maximum fine of $300
  • Serve 14 days in jail (jail time already served)
  • License to be revoked in Colorado
  • Pay $1,996 in extradition fees

Dietzmann is expected to formally appear before a Colorado judge by video on April 23 to enter his guilty plea to speed exhibition.

Dietzmann was originally charged with seven misdemeanor counts, including menacing and reckless endangerment.

Investigators with Colorado State Patrol identified Dietzmann by using cellphone tower records and security camera footage from a convenience store on the day his video titled “Colorado Springs to Denver in 20 Minutes” was recorded.

Online, it appeared Dietzmann has embraced his criminal case by selling shirts titled “Colorado’s Most Wanted.” Dietzmann continues to post videos of himself driving at fast speeds where he lives in Texas.

Dietzmann has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
