Red Cross blood donation center opens in Denver on Monday

The American Red Cross said it supplies about 40% of the nation's blood. Appointments are open at a new Denver donation center.

DENVER — American Red Cross is opening a new blood donation center in Denver.

The blood donation center will open Monday at 10 a.m. at 444 Sherman St., near Speer Boulevard and Grant Street.

Red Cross of Colorado said it has served the state for more than a century and supplies nearly 33,600 units of blood and blood products to 14 hospitals annually in Denver.

The Red Cross said it collects and distributes approximately 40% of the nation’s blood supply to hospitals.

The Colorado community is encouraged to make a lifesaving impact by scheduling a blood donation.

"Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood," said  Gino Greco, Chief Executive Officer; American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming. "The Red Cross is thrilled to bring this lifesaving opportunity to Denver."
