DENVER — Attorney Robert Corry was arrested Tuesday night in Denver after several witnesses reported that he was waving a sword around and threatening people, a probable cause statement from Denver police says.
Officers responded to 816 N. Acoma Street around 7:30 p.m. and where they said numerous people pointed them to a black Maserati.
Corry was sitting in the vehicle and was detained but the sword was not initially located, according to the probable cause statement.
One woman told police she received a call from a resident about a man outside waving a "saber", the probable cause statement says. She went to the front and saw a person later identified as Corry, "walking toward her waving a sword around in the air," the document says.
Another witness said he saw Corry "pull the sword out the trunk". Officer's asked Corry if they could look in his trunk and they located a "sword made from metal and approximately two feet long," the probable cause statement says.
This was Corry's second arrest in a month. He was arrested in June after an incident at Denver International Airport.
The Denver Police Department on June 10, responded to a report of a kidnapping at the airport. The victim was Corry's ex-fiance, who was there to pick up Corry after his flight arrived at the airport, according to an arrest affidavit.
At DIA, Corry said he was being chased by "Arabs" and that they had a helicopter, according to the affidavit. He grabbed his ex-fiance's hand and said they needed to run to her car.
After saying she couldn't drive, Corry drove her vehicle aggressively with the victim in the vehicle, the affidavit says. He honked the horn, hit vehicles and yelled at people while exiting the short-term parking garage, documents show.
Corry drove through a gate arm and over a cone, causing the windshield to break, the affidavit states. When the victim asked to get out of the vehicle, Correy reportedly said that she "better be quiet or he would kill her."
The victim was eventually able to jump out of the vehicle and called 911, documents show.
Corry faces the following charged related to the June incident:
- Aggravated motor vehicle theft
- Reckless endangerment
- First-degree kidnapping
- Criminal mischief
He had posted a $50,000 bond for the June case and must obey a protection order to stay away from the victim.
Corry is currently representing Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, the truck driver who is facing 40 charges -- including vehicular homicide, assault and attempted assault -- in connection with an April 25 crash on Interstate 70 that caused a massive fire and left four people dead.
9NEWS spoke to Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos shortly after Corry's court appearance for the June incident, when he said they were going to give Corry a chance to explain what happened when he's out of jail. At that time, they said they would make a decision on whether or not to keep him as an attorney.
