Aurora Police won't release video of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock's son cursing out an officer and calling him homophobic slurs.

Aurora PD insisted it isn't covering for the mayor and his family. They said it's policy.

A portion of the video was leaked to 7NEWS - but Aurora Police won't release the whole thing.

It's another embarrassment involving law enforcement for Hancock - who has apologized for sending sexually suggestive texts to an officer on his security detail. The mayor apologized Tuesday for his son's actions.

"The last thing we want are young men interacting with our police officers in that manner – particularly African-American young men," Hancock told 9NEWS. "And so he recognizes that and he certainly understands that the officer didn't deserve the interaction that he had."

Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz tweeted that it's, "Not the first or last time kids of VIPs have made mistakes."

The chief said, "No hard feelings."
