A statement from the Basalt Fire Department said by the time they were called to the home in Pitkin County on Friday, the home owner had the fire pretty much out.
Both the 35-year-old woman and her three-year-old child were treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
The statement said a build-up of fumes from the hair coloring chemicals in the unventilated bathroom caused the fire.
