DENVER — No one was injured when a police chase ended with a carjacking suspect hitting a house and an officer hitting a fence Monday in the East Colfax neighborhood, the Denver Police Department said.

Police said the incident started with a carjacking in the area of East 37th Avenue and North Quebec Street. At 4:41 p.m., officers found the victim's car about two miles away, in the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Syracuse Street. A pursuit was authorized.

The suspect entered the alley between the 1200 block of North Quince Street and the 1200 block of North Roslyn Street, which is a dead-end alley. The suspect tried to ram his way out, causing damage to a house, police said.

One of the officers involved in the chase turned into the alley and saw other police cars were stopped. To avoid hitting them, the officer swerved and hit a fence on private property, police said.

There were no injuries to anyone involved, police said.

Security video showed the suspect being arrested in the backyard of a home. He faces charges including aggravated robbery and vehicular eluding, according to jail records.

Denver Police said their Victim Assistance Unit has been in contact with the property owner whose house was damaged, offering them hotel accommodations and informing them of the process for filing a claim with the city for the damage.
