Denver Rescue Mission building new homeless shelter for men

The Denver Rescue Mission is creating a new shelter for homeless men in Denver.

The Denver Rescue Mission is creating a new shelter for homeless men in Denver.

The city dedicated one of the Denver Rescue Mission warehouses in Northeast Park Hill as the location of the new shelter on Thursday.

Once completed, the new shelter located at E 39th Avenue and Holly Street, will have 228 beds available for men to stay overnight.

The project will be the first new permanent shelter built in the city of Denver since 1989.

"This permanent shelter for men makes sure that our economy reflects the compassion, reflects the soul and the values that this great city has." said Mayor Hancock.

Construction will begin next month and the shelter is expected to be open some time in the Fall.
