Evergreen blanket stolen from SEAL's grave

DENVER - The family of a local Navy SEAL who was killed in action wants to know who would steal from their son's grave.

"I don't understand why someone would be so cruel," said the SEAL's mother Cindy Dietz.

Danny Dietz died in June 2005 while serving in Afghanistan. His unit was ambushed, and Dietz was shot several times but continued defending his comrades.

"Our son was a great warrior and he paid the ultimate price and his resting place should be sacred not only to us but to everybody," said Dietz.

The last two years the family set out the custom-made evergreen blanket along with decorations and had no problems.

However, when the couple went to visit their son's grave on Friday they noticed everything was gone. Their initial thought was perhaps a grounds worker moved it, but they soon found out, no one with Ft. Logan touched the site.

"It's just breaks my heart," said Dan Dietz.

The family has already arranged to set out a new blanket and hopes it will be left alone.

"We hope to God and pray to God that somebody doesn't take it again," said Dietz.
