If you want to get up close and personal with the National Western Stock Show’s 2018 Grand Champion steer, mosey on over to The Brown Palace Hotel (312 17th St.) in Denver on Friday, January 19. The prized animal, adorned with a garland of roses, will be escorted down a red carpet at 11 a.m. to take center stage during afternoon tea in the famed lobby. (The steer takes his tea from a sterling silver punch bowl. Two sugars, please!) This is the last hurrah before heading to the auction of champions later in the evening.

The public is welcome to witness the champ’s beauty up close from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pose for a souvenir photo for a suggested $10 donation to There With Care. The non-profit organization provides fundamental support services to approximately roughly 125 Denver area families each week whose child is facing a critical illness.

Anyone who purchases a photo will be entered into a raffle to win prizes from The Brown Palace, including an overnight stay in The Brown’s newly renovated guest rooms, a sumptuous brunch at Ellyngton’s, Afternoon Tea and more. Rodeo royalty of the two-legged variety will also be on hand for pictures and autographs.

Of course, thanks to smartphones, you can snap your own photos, maybe just not up-close.
