"Daddy Hunger" looks at impact of absent fathers

Daddy Hunger looks at the implications, particularly in African-American families./>

9NEWS 8 a.m. "So many children are suffering from what I consider to be epidemic," Upchurch said.

He has traveled all over the country with this film and saidthe conditions it explores in fatherless familiesare no different fromstate to state. Upchurch says there are currently 25 million children are living without a father. Two-thirds of African-American children are living in absent-father homes.

"I want to increase awareness, I want to re-engage fathers with their children, I want children to get mental health services because they are suffering from this epidemic, and I hope that we literally change the world, that we bring fathers back home," Upchurch explained.

Tonight, April 2nd,there will be a free screening of Daddy Hunger at the Shadow Theatre in Aurora at 7 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Colorado Dads as part of the Colorado Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Initiative.

At the end of the screening Upchurch will hold a question and answer session.
