2 dead after vehicle runs red light in Lakewood Sunday, police say

A vehicle ran a red light early Sunday morning at Alameda and Kipling and hit another vehicle in the intersection.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Two Kansas residents have died after a vehicle ran a red light early Sunday in Lakewood and hit another vehicle, killing a passenger and sending four other occupants to area hospitals, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

According to police, a vehicle traveling eastbound on West Alameda Avenue ran the red light and hit a vehicle going southbound on South Kipling Street at around 2 a.m.

Jesse Edmonds, 30, and Jacob Bowen, 26 were killed in the crash, police said.

The driver and the occupants of the vehicle that ran the red light were all transported to area hospitals, Lakewood PD said.

The West Alameda Avenue and South Kipling Street instersection was closed for several hours as Lakewood police investigated the crash.

It's unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
