When is the next total solar eclipse in Colorado?

After Monday's celestial show, the United States won't see another coast-to-coast total solar eclipse for 21 years. Here's the path of totality.

DENVER — Millions of Americans watched Monday as the moon moved in front of the sun, blocking all daylight for as much as four minutes in some areas. 

Monday's 2024 total solar eclipse crossed North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. It was the biggest celestial extravaganza in the U.S. since 2017.

The United States won't see another coast-to-coast total solar eclipse like it until 2045.

When is the next coast-to-coast U.S. total solar eclipse?

The United States will experience a coast-to-coast total solar eclipse on Aug. 12, 2045. The path of totality will stretch from California to Florida.

The path of totality of the 2045 total solar eclipse will cross California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

The states not in the direct path of totality will see a strong partial solar eclipse in 2045.

As well as those states, the path of totality in 2045 will also cross The Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and Brazil.

Across Colorado on Aug. 12, 2045, the sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk during the total solar eclipse.

The path of totality will stretch directly across Colorado from Grand Junction to the Colorado-Kansas border. Cities like Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Aspen, Pueblo, Lamar and La Junta will be in the direct path of totality.

Here are other total solar eclipses to mark on your calendars:

2026 total solar eclipse

After Monday, the next total solar eclipse won’t occur until 2026.

This total solar eclipse will graze the top of the world, dipping into Greenland, Iceland and Spain.

2027 total solar eclipse

The next one in 2027 will march across Spain and northern Africa, with totality lasting a long 6 1/2 minutes.

2033 total solar eclipse

North Americans will have to wait until 2033 for another total solar eclipse, but it will be limited to Alaska.

2044 total solar eclipse

In 2044, Western Canada, Montana and North Dakota will have front-row seats.

2045 total solar eclipse

In 2045, the U.S. will once again experience a coast-to-coast total solar eclipse.
