Champions crowned in tennis state championships

After a tough week of competition, the CHSAA girls' tennis champions have been crowned.

DENVER — History has been made in the Colorado girls tennis individual state championship.

Valor Christian sophomore, Caroline Daugherty, won the No. 1 singles individual title in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 over Chaparral junior Remi Nguyen.

Daugherty's singles win marked Valor Christian’s first-ever individual title for the Eagles' girls tennis program.

Daugherty said the toughest part of Nguyen's game was her serve.

"No one has a serve like her, she's an amazing player, her serve is so good," Daugherty said.

The No. 1 doubles title went home with a very vocal Ralston Valley team starring, Adia Farling and Cassidy Gordon, defeating Cherry Creek 7-5, 6-2.

"Since the beginning of the season we saw we needed to hype each other up," Farling said. "When we started doing that, our play took off."

In 4A No. 1 Singles, Kent Denver's Lila Moldenhauer defeated Erie 6-1, 6-2.

In 3A No. 1 Singles, D’Evelyn's Nicole Celechovsky defeated Colorado Academy 6-2, 6-3.
